Disposal concepts

Every company produces waste on a daily basis. Although the amount and type of waste can vary, every company is responsible for its proper and legally compliant disposal. In order to avoid waste, recycle in a resource-saving manner and protect the environment, there are a number of waste laws and regulations in Germany and the EU. To ensure that these are complied with and that waste management is as efficient and cost-effective as possible, a professional disposal concept is recommended.

Nehlsen offers comprehensive services as a specialist disposal company in all areas of recycling, disposal and cleaning. Our Nehlsen experts are thoroughly familiar with all waste management regulations and laws and will support you in creating an effective disposal concept that is individually tailored to your waste, circumstances and processes. Let us advise you on the various disposal solutions and how to optimize your waste management, specifically for your industry.

What is a
disposal concept?

A disposal concept ensures that waste is disposed of properly and as quickly and cost-effectively as possible in a company based on current waste legislation. In particular, for substances that pose a risk to the environment and people, but also for any other type of waste, suitable disposal routes must be identified and specialized waste management companies must be contracted to recycle and dispose of them.

Our Nehlsen experts proceed systematically when creating a disposal concept. Based on your in-house data, the actual state is analyzed first:

  • What types of waste are produced?
  • What quantities are produced at which location per year?
  • How often and when does waste disposal take place?
  • Which disposal routes are available for the different types of waste?

When selecting suitable disposal methods, the aim is to operate as sustainably as possible and, where possible, to reduce waste altogether or to send it for recovery and recycling. It is also possible to break down waste to recover certain components.

Advantages of a disposal concept:

A well-thought-out disposal concept created by experts offers you the following advantages:

  • Approximate quantities of waste can be estimated
  • Expenses for disposal can be roughly predicted
  • Suitable disposal routes and methods are identified
  • Waste quantities can be reduced if possible
  • Materials can be recycled in the best possible way
  • Legal requirements are met

Professional waste management based on the disposal concept includes all levels and locations of a company. For example, the purchasing department can work to minimize waste when selecting the goods and materials to be purchased.

Waste legislation and laws

A disposal concept and expert advice are important because legal requirements must be met when disposing of waste. There is hardly a sector as dynamic as the recycling industry, which must constantly respond to changes in legislation and guidelines. Companies that produce waste therefore rely on qualified advice to meet the latest requirements.
In Germany, the following waste legislation in particular must be observed:

The Closed Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act is the central waste law in Germany and aims to minimize the waste of resources and to protect the environment through sustainable waste management. The hierarchy of waste treatment is prevention, reuse, recycling, other recovery and finally disposal. Companies are subject to, among other things, documentation and verification requirements, as well as the obligation to collect and separate the waste they produce.

The amended Commercial Waste Ordinance from 2017 requires commercial waste producers such as tradespeople, industrial companies and administrations to collect their waste separately as far as possible and to recycle or recover it. This applies to commercial municipal waste as well as to construction and demolition waste after demolition work. If commercial municipal waste cannot be separated, pre-treatment of the waste mixture is mandatory – except for waste producers that collect at least 90% of their commercial municipal waste separately. We can help you determine your rate of separate collection and advise you on your obligations. In addition, the Commercial Waste Ordinance requires waste producers to maintain and document a disposal plan and to be able to present it to the relevant authority upon request.

In addition, each German federal state has its own waste laws and regulations that govern how waste producers in their region must dispose of their waste.
