How smart can waste be?

Our youngest partner, adhoc networks GmbH, has set itself the goal of overcoming the current problems and challenges in the field of waste disposal by means of sensor technology for intelligent level detection of containers.

Adhoc networks GmbH is a young start-up based in Norderstedt. The company has developed a smart waste solution to make the emptying of waste containers more efficient. By collecting recyclables only when full and only where needed, the solution makes logistics more efficient and more environmentally friendly.

The sensor technology used in adhoc networks is sophisticated: an optical sensor installed in the containers measures the fill level. The data collected by the sensors is transmitted to the connected logistics planning platform. This data can be seamlessly integrated into the systems of the waste management companies. The start-up offers the smart waste system, consisting of hardware and software, as a special feature in a subscription model: “This saves the disposal company from making unnecessary investments,” explains managing director Ole Ostermann.

Using this solution not only makes the collection of recyclables more efficient, but also more environmentally conscious. Intelligent level detection and processing enables disposal companies to respond faster and in a more demand-oriented manner.”
