Nehlsen AG is one of the top ten companies in the waste management industry. Through our subsidiaries and investments in companies such as Abfall-Service Osterholz GmbH, GIB Entsorgung Wesermarsch GmbH, and the Zentek Group, we can offer our customers a wide range of services—all from a single source. You can read about what sets these companies apart here.
Since July 1, 2018, Abfalllogistik Bremen has been responsible for household waste collection in the city of Bremen. This includes the collection of residual and organic waste, waste paper, bulky waste, and Christmas trees. In addition, ALB manages waste containers in the city of Bremen, cleans container sites, removes illegal waste deposits, places containers at recycling stations, and carries out transport.
Abfall-Service Osterholz GmbH (ASO) was founded in 1998 by the district of Osterholz as a wholly owned company and is responsible for waste disposal in this district.
As a certified waste disposal company, ASO is the partner of choice for private households and industrial and commercial enterprises in the district of Osterholz when it comes to waste. The company collects and transports waste and recyclable materials professionally and reliably. Customers are supported with comprehensive information and advice.
ASO operates a waste disposal center in Pennigbüttel, a district of Osterholz-Scharmbeck. The facility houses the administration buildings, a private delivery area, and various transfer and recycling halls. Using state-of-the-art technology, over 60,000 tons of household and commercial waste from the Osterholz district are processed here every year. Further information can be found at www.aso-ohz.de.
Since 1996, GIB, based in Brake, has been operating as a waste disposal company for the Wesermarsch district, now trading as GIB Entsorgung Wesermarsch GmbH. GIB Entsorgung Wesermarsch GmbH is the full-service provider in the field of waste disposal and recycling in the district.
As a certified waste management company, GIB offers private households and commercial enterprises in Wesermarsch various recycling collection systems for the needs-based disposal of all waste and recyclable materials, from small bins to large containers. Household and commercial waste is collected and disposed of or transported for further treatment using the company's own vehicles.
In addition to the collection of recyclables and waste, GIB operates a landfill site in Brake-Käseburg, three collection points and a temporary storage facility for small quantities of hazardous waste, as well as a composting plant for green waste in Rodenkirchen and a composting plant for organic waste bin contents in Brake. There are recycling centers in Lemwerder, Berne, Brake, Rodenkirchen, and Nordenham, which are operated by GIB.
All of GIB's activities are increasingly being assessed according to climate and environmental criteria. In addition to smaller measures for climate and resource protection, such as the extensive collection of separate waste streams and CO2-neutral printing, GIB has been operating a solar power system on the roof of its waste disposal center in Brake since 2006.
By operating a composting plant with a fermentation stage in which organic waste is processed, the gas produced can be converted into electricity and fed into the grid, the heat produced can be used in neighboring leachate treatment plants, and fermentation residues can be offered as compost after a further treatment step.
Further information can be found at www.gib-entsorgung.de.
Since July 1, 2018, Straßenreinigung Bremen GmbH (SRB) has been responsible for street cleaning and winter services in the city of Bremen south of Lesum, excluding the city's overseas port area. This includes cleaning roads and other surfaces, cleaning bus stops, removing oil spills, emptying trash cans, emptying and cleaning storm drains, and providing winter services.
Zentek was founded in 1995 as a consortium of leading medium-sized waste disposal companies in Germany that operate independently of any larger corporate group. As a specialist service provider for waste disposal systems and waste management, Zentek develops and implements customer- and industry-specific solutions for companies operating throughout Germany. Among other things, the company is actively working on the development of digital solutions to simplify all processes related to waste management.
Zentek Services GmbH & Co. KG, part of the Zentek Group, is a full-service provider offering nationwide on-site waste disposal solutions from a single source, from initial consultation and the development of customized waste disposal and recycling concepts to the timely collection and recycling of all types of waste in accordance with the principles of circular economy, through to processing and documentation. This also includes the disposal and recycling of transport packaging and old electrical appliances, as well as EPR compliance services.
The Zentek dual system, which was approved nationwide in 2008, is an integrated system that covers all areas of the Packaging Act, from licensing to the collection and sorting of recyclable materials to their recycling – for transparent and legally compliant solutions in fulfilling the obligation to participate in the system.
Further information is available at www.zentek.de.
ABG mbH is a subsidiary of OVVD GmbH (51%), which operates the Rosenow mechanical-biological waste treatment plant (MBA) together with waste disposal companies REMONDIS and Nehlsen (24.5% each). The waste treatment plant began operations on June 1, 2005. Since then, approximately 200,000 tons of household waste, bulky waste, and household-type commercial waste have been mechanically and biologically treated at the plant in accordance with legal requirements.
The native organic matter separated in the mechanical treatment stage is, after appropriate removal of recyclable materials, biodegraded in a downstream 8-week intensive and post-composting process to such an extent that it meets the legal disposal criteria. Only about 40% of the waste delivered has to be disposed of at the neighboring OVVD landfill after reaching its landfill capacity, about 50% is recycled as high-calorific substitute fuel in the Stavenhagen cogeneration plant, and metals and wood are separated from the waste using complex sorting technology and marketed as recyclable materials. The MBA thus makes a significant contribution to the environmentally friendly disposal of waste and to conserving landfill space.
