The suction excavator –
safe and quick excavation

Uncovering pipes, cables or even roots is often extremely laborious and delays the progress on a construction site. When excavating gravel and stones, it is not uncommon for pipes or roots to be damaged when uncovered. This is where the suction excavator comes into play: it transports various materials such as sand or stones out of pits and shafts or down from towers and roofs into its integrated container. It can even dig out manholes without damaging roots or pipes. Find out everything about the Nehlsen suction excavator here.

The advantages at a glance

  • Faster and safer excavation work compared to manual excavation
  • Suction including removal of the material
  • Liquid, solid and contaminated materials can be sucked up
  • Suction of materials up to 70 kg and 25 cm in diameter thanks to high suction power
  • Many possible uses: from landscaping and trade to railroad and track construction
  • Can be used to extract a variety of materials such as mud, water, gravel, sand or stones
  • Can be used to extract from shafts and down from roofs

Why a suction excavator?

Nehlsen's suction excavator is used when materials are located in places that are difficult to access mechanically or logistically. These can be, for example, pits or shafts in the ground, but also high places such as roofs or towers. The same applies to particularly sensitive and protected areas. These include sections where, for example, tree roots or pipes run. The suction excavator works in a soil-conserving manner and thus protects the vegetation. Due to the fast suction process and the high suction power, construction times are considerably shorter compared to manual excavation. Suction excavation is also safer than manual excavation – especially when dealing with contaminated material.

The suction excavator can suck up or down materials with a diameter of up to 25 cm and a weight of up to 70 kg. The solid or liquid materials pass directly through the suction hose into a collection container. These are then either transferred into on-site containers or transported directly by the suction excavator to a suitable unloading point – for example, a recycling center. This way, you don't have to worry about disposal.

If work is needed on telecommunications cables or gas, water or electricity lines in the underground, the suction excavator can be used to expose them. The suction excavator is also used for burst water or gas pipes, horizontal drilling, and the renovation or new construction of wells. It reliably sucks up a wide variety of materials. The advantage: the tree roots are always protected during all work and the pipes are not damaged.

Since the suction excavator does not damage the roots of trees, it is ideal for use in landscaping. For example, it can be used to rehabilitate root systems or to expose areas in the immediate vicinity of the tree. It can also be used to clear mud from ponds. During all operations, we always take care not to endanger the environment and to protect vegetation. At the same time, we ensure that the excavated soil is disposed of properly.

The powerful suction system makes the suction excavator ideal for removing ballast and soil, for clearing tracks and replacing ballast. The fast suction ensures that operations can be resumed quickly and that there are no long delays. Furthermore, the suction excavator can be used to clean track beds and drainage channels.

The suction excavator pays for itself, especially when renovating buildings. It ensures the quick removal of demolition materials and can even get under buildings and false ceilings. It not only vacuums materials out of pits, but also down from green and flat roofs. Tanks and containers are quickly emptied thanks to the suction excavator, and the material is transported from the construction site to the nearest disposal or recycling center.

The suction excavator also performs valuable work in the commercial sector: contaminated materials are quickly and safely removed, filter systems cleaned and tank farms uncovered. Even entire bunkers, silos and boilers can be emptied thanks to the 12 m³ integrated container. In the field of energy generation, the suction excavator can also remove residual material from digesters in biogas plants or ash and wood chips from wood-fired plants.

Be prepared for emergencies – with the suction excavator, you are. Our all-rounder also provides excellent service in the event of spills, natural disasters or vehicle accidents. It reliably removes debris and mud from the scene of the accident and vacuums materials out of crashed trucks. At the gas station, the suction excavator can help after an accident by vacuuming up soil.

In addition to applications in industry and civil engineering, simpler tasks such as sand replacement in playgrounds or the replacement of drinking water filter substrate can also be carried out by the suction excavator. The suction excavator is also suitable for sewage treatment plants: the sludge is sucked into the container through a suction hose and can be safely transported to another location.

What material can the suction excavator suck up?

  • Sand and soil
  • Gravel and stones
  • Sludge and water
  • Metal and wood shavings
  • Broken glass and concrete
  • Waste

Technical data

Nehlsen's suction excavator is a 4-axle vehicle equipped with a high-performance suction system. The air turbines of the 10.40 m long, 2.55 m wide and 3.70 m high carrier vehicle are particularly robust and have a large air volume. The internal container is 12 m³ in size, which allows for complete and rapid clearing of pits. The strong air flow means that materials of up to 70 kg and a diameter of up to 25 cm can be sucked up. Even liquid materials such as mud and water are sucked up completely and without any problems.
